A PASSIONATE HYBRID

"Bag navnene Fuat Talay og Mashtis gemmer der sig to mænd med forskellig musikalsk og national baggrund, men med en tydelig fælles lidenskab for lyde og samspil.
Fuat, der af politiske grunde ikke kan bo i sit fædreland Tyrkiet, udgør den traditionelle tyrkiske halvdel af duoen, mens Mashtis med det borgerlige navn Mads Norheim arbejder i krydsfeltet mellem elektronisk og akustisk og traditionel musik. Et krydsfelt, som 'Sufisticated' befinder sig lige midt i.
De to har fået hjælp af en stribe musikere og sangere, der alle bidrager til at skabe denne hybrid af nyt og gammelt, hvisken og råb og øst og vest.   
Fuat synger på de fleste af sangene med en stemme, der er så rummelig, stærk og sårbar, at den kan fortælle historier på et sprog, man ikke forstår, blot ved hjælp af sit udtryk og diktion. 'Sufisticated' er en lang fortælling om kærlighed og længsel, håb og savn, og møder mellem kulturer, mennesker og lyde.

Kamp eller samspil?
Mange af de brugte instrumenter har ikke blot en musisk-æstetisk værdi, men er så sandelig også en oplevelse for øjet. Jeg vil klart anbefale, at man kigger på billeder af de anvendte slagtøjs-, blæse- og strengeinstrumenter, mens man lytter til 'Sufisticated', så man kan opnå en helhedsoplevelse på trods af, at man måske ikke forstår teksterne."

About Fuat Talay

Fuat Talay has played and sung Anatolian folk music since the age of 10. JHe has been touring around the world. In the later years he has played baglama (saz) with artists such as the Kurdish singer Sivan Perwer, the diva of Turkish folk music Sebahar Akkiraz, and the Danish-Iraqi singer Aida Nadeem's band Arabtronic.

In cooperation with Efkar Ensemble in Sweden, he released the album ' Back to Anatolia' with the record company Caprice Records. Furthermore he has participated as organiser and has played saz on numerous albums.

Political unrest along with the lack of fredom of speech in Turkey forced him to abandon his native country, which he still cannot return to.

Mashti (real name: Mads Nordheim) is a Norwegian composer, producer and DJ, based and workning out of Copenhagen in Denmark. Over the last decades he has been workning with electronic music and combinding the electronic style with the acustic and old traditional music from different parts of the world such as India, Iran and Turkey.
